CANCON is the reason I GET SICK OF Canadian artists, 'cause they are played TOO OFTEN. That's just my opinion, but if I hear Nickelback one more time, or Alannis, or what's her face from Napanee, I think I'll puke.
=================================================
I don't think CANCON is the problem as there are hundreds of decent Canadian artists not getting played. The problem is they repeat the same few crappy Canadian artists ad nauseum. Don't blame CANCON, blame the state of commercial radio.

Canadian music has been enjoying a revolution of late: Metric, Broken Social Scene, New Pornographers, Stars, Death From Above 1979,Controller.controller, Etc, etc, etc. Some of these bands are getting more play on U.S. stations. Yet most Canadian stations still end up playing crap like Nickleback, Simple Plan, Tea Party, Etc.

Perhaps you're right. When I dj'd, and it was only about 10 shows 'fore I quit, the CRTC restrictions were very clear, but ••••, (hey, that rhymes)if I wanted to let's say feature Matthew Good Band, and because Symbolistic White Walls is considered a HIT, I shouldn't have played it, because community radio can't by-law compete with commercial radio, even if you play Canadian. I mean a hit is a hit is a hit. Period. Doesn't matter that SymbWW was a hit in '95 and is hardly ever heard now, aw crap. It was a drag. I quit.
Yeah maybe CANCON isn't to blame completely for making me sick of Canadian music. Maybe it is the state of commercial radio programmers getting what?, payback? I wonder... to play certain artists 'til we puke, maybe it's the CRTC. I do hear good Canadian music from CBC, and Bravo. At least it's varied.

I, for one, did actually find out about David Marsden being on 94.9. A big thank you to all those people that did post it.

Looks like The Rock is really getting behind the Marsden show. On the back of a TTC bus i was following today, i saw a big placard ad for the show. Some of the copy was "Invisible airwaves crackling with life", and "The SPIRIT Lives", the latter using the same font as CFNY used (see the banner above). Lousy picture of David. The music MORE than makes up for it, though!

Just discovered The Rock now that Im almost too old to be bothered... still it was refreshing to hear Marsden again ... oddly, time stands still when the universe unfolds...
