Isn't this web site dedicated to CFNY in the Spirit of Radio Days? At least I though so. This whole discussion is so ridiculous and pointless. I mean come on people!! DAVID MARSDEN the guy behind the SPIRIT OF RADIO --- THE ACTUAL GUY WHO ORIGINATED IT posts in this forum to congratulate Alan and HE gets ignored by all of you. can you say L-O-S-E-R-S? listen to 94.9 therock.fm and get over yourselves already. it's just embarassing. geesh!

I think AJ must post here. There are two anonymous threads coming at about 4:30-5:30 in the morning, giving verbal hand-jobs to the on-air music and announcers.

I checked those anonymous threads at 4:30-5:30AM. You are right! How stupid do they think we are?? CFNY.....I mean the EDGE is nothing more than a glorified top 40 station that has a repetitive and carefully crafted schedule that discourages any creativity or oiginality. In short....they stink!

In the past few weeks, I've noticed both the Weakerthans and Metric, two fantastic Canadian indie bands, getting closer and closer to heavy rotation.
Then there's that absolutely killer new Morrissey song.
Dare we hope that this all portends something?

As long as ROTATION is an issue, the "edge" will be a dull edge to a worn knife. Once they loose that and remove any playlist then they *might* be listenable.

I've heard a few subtle changes at cfny....maybe Alan is having an impact after all.

There's a good interview with Alan Cross on www.spillmagazine.com
It's one of the features. In it, Alan reveils that radio is at the mercy of "trends." It used to be that CFNY started trends.

WOW! I didn't know the edge had a whole website dedidcated to it. (besides it's official website)
I personally love Alan Cross. The dude knows alot.
Well, I have only been listening for the past 3 years (i'm in my teens) so, I'm not familiar with the "spirit of radio" If anyone wants to, please explain what the hell you guys are talking about. I'm passionate about music aswell so I'll probably post my thoughts too.

Hey Edge Listener, I think you deserve a better answer than "look for yourself, kid". CFNY was a station that cared directly about its listeners. It was a very hard-to get station with a lot of personality. Each DJ had their own sound and feel and was given an unheard of amount of freedom to play what they needed to play. (within loose constraints). It wasn't a college station, however. I had the opportunity to grow up listening to the funniest Morning Show ever- Pete & Geets. I'd wake up in tears from laughing so hard. Off the cuff, no (US or Canadian) consultants, no bigwigs from Calgary, just great radio. With younger audiences flocking away from radio, we may never hear this kind of phenomenon again. (although they're trying in Seattle, and it's working!- www.1077theend.com) I'm glad you came to this site and discovered the cool roots of 102.1 You are the future- something that CFNY was always concerned about. It's your turn to do something cool and memorable like CFNY was to us and pass it on to the next generation... that's the spirit! ...and YES! My email is on.

Have any of you ever met Alan Cross? Hmm... I did, but he was kind of busy because it was the day that the Much Music Video awards were happening (last summer) and he was waiting for the lead singer from the Darkness. We talked for a bit, but once the dude got there, and the limos pulled up, I just slowly walked away because Alan had to talk to "the people". Hmm... he seemed nice. I wonder what he's really like. I hope he didn't think I was rude for walking away. He probably just thought I was a weird looking 16 year old. *(lol)* Any thoughts guys?
