Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we're here, loving the fact that the station meant so much to so many people, and how great it was, but aren't we supposed to be reminiscing about our experiences and such, instead of stating the incredibly moot point of it not being the same as the old days? What are your more humourous or memorable moments that directly involved cfny, or just the fact that it was playing in the background? Oh yes, to those who put this site up, Thank You! Good job.

CFNY was, literally, the soundtrack of my life between roughly 1978-1988. Just about any memory from those times i conjure up will be associated with a typical CFNY song.
Sunday morning, blue sky, 'NY on the stereo while i make brekky, the Cycle World "riding two wheels you know how it feels" ad, Liz Janek doing the intro to The The's "Uncertain Smile"... and i smile too, inhaling the aroma of frying bacon as i anticipate my girlfriend's imminent arrival...

Too bad that we will never hear a radio station like CFNY again. The world is too corporate and calculated.

But it was corporate and calculated back in '77 too, wasn't it? The Spirit stood out because it was so different from the mainstream. Then again, there are so many alternatives to Radio today compared to back then. You're right, Dave, "we will never hear a radio station like CFNY again". Even back in '84 i knew it couldn't last so i started taping my faves. I remember the exact moment when the feeling of impending doom hit me: CFNY played Terrence Trent D'arby (gag)... but The Golden Age was GREAT while it lasted and i count myself lucky to have been there while The Spirit blazed!

Some of you guys sound so old and miserable. I mean, I'm only a teenager, so I have no idea what "the sprit of radio" means to you. Just let Alan Cross do what he has to do. He can't make everyone happy. And he won't. Because some people here sound like they critize everything "new". This isn't 1987 anymore. So stop holding to your youth and get on with life. I hope I'm not the only one with this opinion.

Actually Tammy, it's not the youth these guys are trying to hang onto, it's the loss of the availability or accessability to great and veried music. What they're complaining about isn't the "new music", it's the mainstream programming that's hit every station, nothing original. They do like the new stuff, but not when it's played 30 f'ing times a day. All they're asking for is VARIETY.

Tammy, first off you are probably older then a teenager, since no one has called their kid Tammy in at least 25 - 30 years. Your name might as well be Winifred or Gertrude. Also you must be the first teenager not to spell something wrong without having the use of spell check on this site; and you use comma's to boot. For someone who writes so well for their age; you are incredibly stupid.

I am a teenager. I was born in 1987. Which makes me 17. What does my usage of comma's or ability to write have to do with anything? Was that comment just sarcasm or where you implying something that I just don't get because I am a teen? So I can spell, big deal. It's called reading. Yea, my name is Tammy. It's the nickname I use. My real name is Tamia. You can't say I'm lying about my age soley based on the fact that my name is Tammy. At least I'm not going to call someone I don't even know "stupid" because that would make me stupid. Assuming sh*t about people that I haven't even met is something that I don't have time to do.

If you want to hear what a non-corporate well-programmed alternative radio station sounds like, try listening to www.woxy.com Unfortunately you won't hear the latest from Simple Plan, Nickleback, Korn, or Marilyn Manson. Sorry 'bout that.

I don't care about hearing of Manson, or Blink, or anybody like that. They are great too, but I wanna hear people like Bowie, Martha and the Muffins, or obscure up and coming bands. I wanna hear radio that stands out. I mean, I long for the days when radio played bands that had passionate guitar riffs, and when music was less corporate and programmed and more about ...well...music. I sometimes think I was born in the wrong era. I can't stand another 17 year old girl sing about breaking up with her boyfriend or hearing about their late night parties. I 'm glad they do what they love, but I get the impression that sometimes they do it for just the money. They could still make a decent living by working (like...OMG! the rest of society!) They are taking the places of people who actually posses natural talent. People who have been in bands for the last 10 years, been living on beans and cola, and could be the next great Nirvana, Clash, or Sex Pistols like thing, but the only reason they're not signed is because labels don't wanna take chances on bands that are obscure, and need help with their "image" as a band or singer. Oh, and one more thing, I'm not pissed off. I know I sounded like it, but I'm not that easy to piss off.
