Okay, I'm sick of having to change to another channel every time Eminem comes on 102.1 The Edge... so I've done something about it.
Go to
http://www.petitiononline.com/edgefans/ to send your message to the station managers that we want CFNY to return to an exclusively New Rock and Alternative format.
Thanks.

Eminem is more alternative than Sum 41 will ever be. Back in the day Chris Sheppard would play RUN DMC, then the Sex Pistols, the Stones and Madonna all back to back. Maybe it is time for you expand your musical interest.

Madonna? Maybe after 1987, not before. CFNY hasn't been exclusively New Rock and Alternative since the David Marsden days pre 1988. I don't listen to The Edge but I'm not suprised they play Eminem (he must have some EDGE in him). What a joke!

Glad to hear from you S Clark. I change the channel every time Eminem is played on the Edge too. The Edge is an alternative station... alternative ROCK... not rap.

Why not play Eminem... The Edge plays Rap Metal, but won't play Rap or Metal on their own. Why is that? Too... edgy?

Because Eminem is not rap metal... he is rap. Rap is not part of the alternative genre; metal is.

You're still being force-fed commercial crap tailored to one specific demographic instead of another. This site exists because of nostalgia for a CFNY that played any genre of music, except for overplayed commercial garbage. "The Edge" is anything but. Who could be less "alternative" than Eminem, but who will make the station money? It's totally cynical. And since when does The Edge play metal?

Let's face it, the station will never be the way it was prior to 1988. Since 1991 and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" the station's focus was to become the second coming of Q107. I'm sure they all celebrated when Q107 decided to go Classic Rock. This way they can play all the 3 guitars, drummer and some guy either talking the lyrics or yelling them drivel they want and claim to be different. To be truly unique the station would have to dig much deeper like they did prior to 1988 but that would require taking a risk and heaven forbid they would do that. They program the tried and true hard rock that the kids can bang their head to, Q107 indeed. Let's stick to talking about The Spirit Of Radio days not The Edge. I second the message above.

So many easy lays. Edge 102 (The Edge. Theee EEDDGGEE! THEEE EEEEEDDDDDGGGGGEEEEE!!! 102)played him as they figure it would be to their profit. Then self-hating ••• Elton John--who like Liberace flaunted his homosexuality while essentially denying it (unlike Tom Robinson-who I understand is or was a DJ in Britain). Now Marilyn Manson is making nice with Eminem. Who will be next to court Eminem? Cheryl Crow did a duet with Kid Rock (he respects "ladies" not "bitches an' ho's"). Maybe what we need is someone even more misogynistic, homophobic, apolitical, stupidly patriotic, perhaps even raciest, than Eminem. It'll show in even sharper relief what his supporters and purveyors are, it will kick the ying into the yang, and it'd be a laugh to hear the likes of Eminem moralizing about such a new artist--and/or later do the Dido vocals with him.

I agree. Get Eminem off the Edge. While you're at it, get rid off S*it Biskit, Sum 41, Creed, Our Lady Peace, and just about everything else they play in regular rotation, except maybe Stripes or Jet. For someone you actually listens to the Edge, I'm surprised that you mind hearing Eminem. There is nothing alternative about the Edge. "Alternative" is not a genre of music, no matter what big corporations tell you.

You're all a bunch of idiots. The music is programmed and every 'alternative' station in North America is exactly the same. It doesn't matter what you/we think. CFNY is just another corporate drone.

I second that, why else would they only play white rap??? They pay Kid, Limp, Em, Beasties, but they never played Ice Cube, Biggie, Public Enemy (besides at a club on-air),or Tupac, when they were big. They stopped playing everything else that had a black singer i.e. Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Living Color, and even Terence Trent Darby. The only exceptions off the top of my head are: Lenny Kravitz who sucks anyway, and Danko. White corporate crap. At least the Spirit din't care about the white alternative mainstream image, if the music was good they played it.

Well, these last two posts certainly tell that those never listened to the cfny in question here. The Spirit Of Radio in the day didn't care what the genre or the background of the artist. If it was good, they played it. If it sucked ass, it was left to cftr or chum. The "edge"? Well they are just as •••••• as any other toronto station apart from the possibility of (and rarely nowadays) CIUT, CKLN or CHRY. By far the most "progressive" radio would be ironically the CBC. Hear better music on there on any given day than all week on 102.
