I believe it was by Robert Priest, who, I understand, is still in Toronto.

Here's one I've been looking for for ages, chorus(?) goes:

I've been crushed by industry's tire
Things go up but I don't get much higher

It's definately NOT Heaven 17's Crushed by the wheel of industry.

Hey Great Satan!

Thanks for the tip. I was able to contact Robert Priest and bought the cd. The song was as good as I remember and the rest of the album worthwhile!

It reinforces my frustration with radio and it's high rotation formula. There is so much great music out there and we don't get to hear it. DNTO tries but it's such a big job.

You're welcome.

Pity we can't easily program audio cassette recorders as we can video, that they last only an hour, and that the tapes cost more than video tapes--I suspect the recording industry has much to do with the later unhappy state of affairs.

CBC doesn't help either with a lack of schedualing or archives--making such available to people.

Still, I'm curious of how such barriers could be surmounted.

'Great site...hope you can help me out with this one. I can't recall there being much of a verse if any but the chorus has a monotone male voice repeating "...I want, i want, i want your soul". I would guess around 1985. This is kind of an electronic dance track more than a song. CFNY played it infrequently and usually at night. '

I realize I might be off base on this suggestion, given that it comes 10 years after the date you gave, but I can't help but think that what you're describing is actually 'Come To Daddy' by Aphex Twin. The lyrics, such as they are, consist of 'I want your soul/I will eat your soul/Come to daddy', with much primal screaming layed over an intense break beat style drum track.

I am looking for the name of a song that I heard a couple of times on Dani's bedtime hour. the 'song' was actually a spoken word piece by an individual who I think was an old TV/Hollywood star - he had a familiar voice. The song consisted of him recounting the story of how he crosses the street to meet his companion. In the crossing he is somehow conveyed/transformed to distant galaxies and fights in wars, battling monsters etc. The song has sound effects but I don't recall any music per se. It ends when the story ends and he gets to the other side of the street to meet his companion.

I remember playing this at CFFF campus radio at Trent in Peterborough, but I can't recall the album cover or song name. It might have been track 1 or 10...

I would really love to find out the name of the track or the album if anyone can recall.

Here are the real lyrics as printed on Jonah Lewie's Heart Skips Beat:

Bang goes another bomb
On Another Town
While the Czar and Jim
have tea.

I have no idea who Jim is. This is a great album but you can also find the track on the Stiff Records Box Set and I've also seen it on Christmas compilations.

Nice and Cannes, St. Tropez, Monte Carlo, bullsh*t baffles the brains
In the southern part of France where the ladies wear no pants.

The Nobby Clegg (correct spelling is always key to finding what you're looking for on the 'Net) song you're so desparately looking for was on a compilation LP called "Toronto Calling" released on El Mocambo Records.

Open City on the Danforth (near Greenwood) has a basement full of these things. Support the store and BUY some music.
