Does anyone remember the Heatwave Festival? I think it was 1982. In the countryside of Ontario somewhere. On the lineup were The Pretenders, Nick Lowe and Rockpile, Elvis Costello, The Kings, and others. I think it was 2 nights. That was the Woodstock of my mileau. I think I might have a few photos left over.
Does anyone recall the other acts in the lineup? Was the attendence level a success or not? Who were the sponsors/promoters? My girlfriend and I slept out in a cloth sleeping bag so the weather must have been dry.

I used to have a copy of the promo poster for this.
I'll have to dig it out..... as I recall this was the pre-cursor to The Police Picnic(s) ?

I was there. It was August 23, 1980 at Mosport. It was only one day - all day long. I still have newspaper clippings, t-shirts, pictures etc.
Teenage Head was the opener. The Kings closed, after a drunken Elvis Costello performed. Also there was: The Prentenders, The B52s, The Talking Heads, Rockpile with Nick Lowe and Dave Edmonds and others that slip my mind.
I remember a CFNY blimp flying overhead too.
I will have to pull out all the stuff I have.

I went to first police picnic - it was fabulous. Trying to remember the line-up: Flock of Seagulls, The Spoons, The Police...cannot remember who else..

I was at them too.... first one was August 23, 1981 in Oakville at The Grove. With The Payolas, Nash The Slash (who they pulled the plug on and he was pissed!), Oingo Boingo, Killing Joke, Iggy Pop, The Go-Go's, The Specials, and some more.
The second one is the one you are referring to - August 1982 at the CNE - with A Flock of Seaguls, The Spoons, The Beat, and Joan Jett (who I seem to remember being boo'd).
The third and final Picnic was August 1983 at the CNE also - with Blue Peter, some African band, James Brown, The Fixx and Peter Tosh.
Great fun.
