Anyone else go to Domino or Nuts and Bolts circa '85 - '87? Who made the drive up to the Cotton Club in Markham? How about The Empire Club on Yonge Street? Sunday night at the Copa with the all-you-can buffet? Or Wednesday nights with Alan Cross/Nicholas Picholas at the hotel on the airport strip? Wow! Those were some great nights!!
Night Clubs
I remember going to the airport strip back in the early 90's. Ran into Sara Craig there once.
Aside from being musically talented she was also pretty friendly and easy on the eyes!

Nuts & Bolts, The empire, Catch 22, the Lizard Lounge on Sundays, The Boom Boom Room, Im sure I have missed about 10 or so other good clubs.
Oh yeah, the Cotton Club, Spent about 10+ years going there and have way to many stories to post about that.

I remember many of those old clubs myself. I'm currently writing a book on the Toronto alternative club scene and I am looking for stories. If you have any interesting stories you would like to share, please email me at either
[email protected] or [email protected]
I am sure that there are many interesting stories out there and I look forward to hearing/reading them.
Cheers

Yeah, I use to go to the Big Bop, The Empire, RPM and Club Max for my alternative fix.
I now DJ friday nights at Savage Garden on Queen St. I also spin the Retro room at the monthly Fetish Masquerade.

What about the Igwana Lounge on Pears Avenue - did any of you go there? I used to love that place.
Night Clubs
For one summer there was also a club that opened called "Kongo" the location was city hall. Let me think - the year was...1983 (?) or 1984 (?) It was a great place to go.
Night Clubs
In the late 80s, there was an all-ages cfny-style club behind City Hall called Focus.

Nuts n' Bolts and Dominos were great while they lasted. Anyone go to a place called "Start Dancing" at the corner of Carleton and Sherbourne circa '82 '83? sort of a Mod-type dance club (where under age were also welcome)?
I went to Start Dancing a few times. I rember that a few local Queen Street fanzine guys did DJing there - Nick Smash and Dave McIntosh. it was pretty cool for the short time it lasted.
Loved Dominos and Nuts n' Bolts - when they were good they were very very good - but when they were bad they were 'orrible. hit and miss.
Remeber Dominoes video nights? really bad pal to NTSC conversions of British videos --- but to see some of those (Bowie's Boys Keep Swinging comes to mind) even in third generation quality was way cool back then.
went to Voodoo club on St Joseph (?) twice (didn't really live up to the hype)

I went to Voodoo,Still Life,The Silver Crown,The Cotton Club(more like lived there),Lizzard Lounge, Upper Lip, Larry's, The Turning Point, Catch 22, Sluts and Dolts, Dominoes, The Phoenix and so on. This was back when the music was loud, people danced and 2 for 1 drinks was the norm. It was also back when you would take the time to get ready to go out, no baseball hats, baggy jeans and for the most part not a lot of BO mixed with cologne.
Too bad CFNY of today is like a bad Coor's Light commercial on repeat.
