In 1978 CFNY ran a lucrative contest. I believe the prize was a trip around the world. All you had to do to win was call up and name the four most influential albums of all time. The contest ran for months. And finally they had to give huge clues.
I remember 3 of the albums.
For demonstrating what electronic music could do - Switched on Bach by Wendy Carlos. God bless the Moog synthesizer. Maybe the White Stripes should do a whole album...but I digress.
For showing what the potential of the guitar - Electric Lady Land by Jimi Hendrix.
For taking rock and roll music into a whole new direction and opening it up etc. Rubber Soul by the Beatles.
But I cannot remember the other album. I would not be surprised if it were an Elvis album. He did change the world after all. Or perhaps it was Buddy Holly? Maybe even Frank Sinatra. I wouldn't put it past the Mars Bar. Does any one remember?
