Thanks for reminding me, now I remember that about 88.5. One thing I definitely remember about 88.5 was that there was virtually no signal. I remember when 88.5 went to the dance format, there was one announcer there, Amanda Dunn, now she is on KISS. From what I hear she absolutely HATED working at 88.5. They were probably one of the most disorganized stations around. Anyway, I'm afraid that we are just going to have to face that there wont be a CFNY type of station again *sigh* :o(

I remember Q107 used to play lots of good New Wave in the pre-New Romatic days. First time I heard Teenage Head, The Diodes, The Clash, The Demics, The Cars, The Pretenders, The Police...it was all on Q107. I even remember hearing The B52s and the Angelic Upstarts on late night Q107. Maybe that was just before CFNY became audible where I lived. But even Q was good at one point.

105.1 is The River. It used to be at 101.1 but they turned to rap. And the River moved to 105.1. It is mostly like the Mix and plays popular stuff, but they "pride" themselves on playing a lot of 80's. They aren't too bad and on long weekends it is "all 80's", but as another poster stated, mostly "your standard stuff".

Oh, sorry, I forgot to say it is out of Niagara Falls area, so you can't get this station outside of the Niagara Region.
Alternatives to CFNY
Yes, I am from Niagara. I'm just glad we are able to pick up all the Toronto stations or there would be nothing. This area is also completely devoid of good clubs. Boy do I ever miss Gord's Place. Anyone ever go there?

Gords was fun for a while--I stopped going around 92 or so. I found the music dropped way off after that one darkhaired DJ guy left--the beligerent guy who took over for Joff.
They had a good retro night on Thursdays, as I recall.

Yeah I went there like 12 years ago. From what I remember it was okay. I went to so many of them at the time its hard to remember now what was good and what wasnt. I was too young to go at the time, but whatever lol. The one club that I didnt like was Club Maxx, or whatever that was called. I just know that the last time I went there, I ended up puking all over the place on the way out lol, sorry! That was my way of expressing my feelings about the place I guess. Dont have time to go to clubs anymore. Bogged down with kids! Man, I do miss those days though. I guess its a good thing you can pick up the Toronto stations because the Buffalo stations suck! However, doesnt KISS 98 play retro at times? I know one of them does/did. They are pretty much all the same. I dont know if this is still the case but I know that Buffalo has/had a station the edge 103.3, guess they couldnt be more original. A

Buffalo has/had a much better nightlife than Toronto, IMO --way frendlier people, too. The Pink Flamingo (both of them), the Continental, Icon, The Atomic. Damn fine clubbin' in Buffalo! And the Music at the Continental--OOH LA LA! No wonder Sheppard could often bee seen skulking around there on Thursdays--Dave and Ken were YEARS ahead of Toronto's top "alternative" DJs!

Gords was pretty good except the crowd for the most part sucked. Nobody would dance to anything they hadn't heard a million times before. By 91-92 I was spending most of my time in Shooters. No dance floor but better music (it was supposed to be 'classic rock' but is seemed to have lots of older 'new wave' music like the Monks , the Clash, and Gary Numan--which is a good thing). Gords was way too crowded, loud and predictable most of the time. And there were way too many preppy a**holes starting fights and stuff, like it was some frat house or something. Its like as soon as they put in that patio in the back it was an open invitation to moronic behaviour. On the other hand, it's the only club I've ever been in which played Throbbing Gristle, Grace Jones and Young Gods back to back. Or Swans, period.

Actulaay, now that I think of it, what's going to cause more fights than amplified Throbbing Gristle and cheap beer?

Yeah I know but it still wasnt as bad as Club Maxx, that place was beyond awful. I also used to go to the Limelight all the time. At first it was pretty good but after a year of going there it started to suck big time. That seems to be the story with most of them. A

Geez, that's bugging me now...what was the Gords DJ name? He replaced the guy from Jamaica. He played some really hard cuts.
