Flashback Alternatives at Live 365 is a very good station to hear a ton of great 80's music heard on The Spirit Of Radio.

My personal favorite on Live365 is 'Club 80's with DJ LEX' (www.djlex.com)

Very cool. Unfortunately, Live365 is once again changing its 'revenue' model. There will only be a limited number of 'free' slots to listen to broadcasts. Club80's will NEVER have an empty slot come June 1.

Note to all: remember 92.5 CISS? They used to be into country. Then they went for the teen market--though it seems a lot of older folks listened to it.

Well now it's "Jack radio." For the most part it sounds lame, but when you hear Klaatu's "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" followed by Edie (msp?) Brickells "What I Am," well that shows potential.

KRESKIN - I think you need to check the date of this post - H & F are off to the MIX...which is not, I REPEAT - NOT an alternative to CFNY.

Going back the original post, alternatives to CFNY. I listen to channel 817 on Directv. It's pretty good but rotates about every 8hrs or so.
CFNY in it's current state is a piece of sheit
and has been for quite a while

well the obvious is of course the inimitable DAVE MARSDEN'S slot on 94.9 FM on Thursday and Friday nights. real free-form radio. its like being there. ('NY in the good old days) only better - 'cause its actually for real. tell your friends...

For a true "alternative" free form radio experience on the internet have a look at and a listen to www.radioparadise.com , "Eclectic Radio for the 21st Century". Very little (almost no) dj banter, but hour upon hour of intelligent rock music that conjures up "The Spirit of Radio" ethos that fans of the 'NY of the late seventies to the CN Tower era and beyond will appreciate.

Back to clubs - I remember Gord's way before the patio - early 80's. I remember "borrowing" a chair out the back door for my dorm room when I went away to school. And they always played a good thrashing set at least once a night. But Jerry's had better bands - and cheaper beer - except for early evenings two for one drinks at Gords. I'd go with my buddy joe and we would order a whole tray of two for one drafts at the end of the hour (7pm?) - drink them over the next hour - then a couple more drinks and head to the Continental.

AT the continental you could drink for pinball money (75 cents for screwdrivers and for death burritos).

No matter how drunk we were - every road from Barfalo seemed to lead home. Kids are so much more responsible now - a good thing.

What about "Green Jello" at the continental? And what was the name of the house band at the continental that did a great Sex Pistols cover. They stopped doing it when too many people spit on them.

Forgotten Rebels always put on a good show - when they could stand up.

Black Flag at University of Buffalo - then a house party - somewhere in Barfalo.

This site brings back memories.

There is a lot of great music being played there
but I'm not crazy about the way they've segregated the genres of alt music. Either way it's still better than all of the "edge" stations out there. Although come to think of it, all it takes is pushing the random button on a cd player and you'd be better than all the "edge" stations!

The closest thing I've found to 'NY in the good old days is kexp.org. They're out of Seatle and play a wide range of interesting music most of which you'd never hear on commercial radio. There are also no commercials and not much dj talk. They run a current playlist so you can always read what you're listening to. There's even a little bit of Cancon and lots of local music from the Northwest. Check it out.

The best thing to CFNY I've found is channel 44 "FRED" on XM Satellite Radio. I can't stop listening, the programming is brilliant!

Flashback Alternatives is awesome. Check it out. There are a lot of obscure tracks among the close to 8000 that you can request and hear within an hour of requesting it.
