Hi, I know I've been silent for a while, I just had a baby a few weeks ago but I'm back for now, here and there that is lol. Anyway I heard a rumour that Live Earl Jive was fired because of using profanity on the air. Is that true? Just curious.... A

Earl? Profanity?

I don't think so.

The worst thing Earl ever said on-air was,
hosebag.

Actually I think it was Ryner (sp?) that got the sack from CHUM-FM for profanity. •••• (oops, that's profanity :^) I lost those brain cells a long time ago, but I think he was doing an interview with Frank Zappa and it just digressed. Ryner (sp?) later had a show on TVO and finally came to CFNY during one of their shake-downs/ups.

Earl... Profanity... never!

Actually.. as I recall.. when Earl and Bev were back on on sat/sun mornings, I spent alot of time on the phone with them, hours each day to be more accurate. Occasionally on air.

I am pretty sure they departed to go back to a US station.. I could be way off.. but for some reason Detroit area is ringing a bell.

Anyone remember that annoying youngster who used to phone and question whether Earl's deep voiced producer existed?

His name was something something Balls.

I believe her name was Maryanne or something.

It was Rick Moranis that did the infamous interview with Frank Zappa if remember correctly. It involved the word a**hole being exchanged a few times.

Reiner got in MAJOR shi* for a dissertation on John Lennon's "Working Class Hero" in which it is said, "They are all fu*king peasents as far as I can see" and the censorship he was seeing put forth on the broadcasters at the time. Don't forget, even as late as 1969, you couldn't even say "Pregnant" on the air without feeling the government's wrath. He didn't get fired for it but got put under the very close eye of the station manager until he finally quit. Heard that from Reiner himself on a GREAT radio PD seminar I went too. Basically Reiner & Gary Obie (Of the HOG and Q107 fame at the time) where they both dwelve into their on air profanity & drug reports of the time. Damn funny tape..

Also, that Frank Zappa thing- That was a concert (Reiner went into this as well. All part of that "Working Class Hero" thing) that was to be done at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It was one of his orchestrial pieces. In the middle of it, he was wanting the entire London Symphony Orchestra to stand up in unison and yell, "Oh Fu*k" but the concert was cancelled after the management got wind of this. That & the John Lennon bit really got him peaved I think..
