This song is from '83 or maybe '84. Very uptempo, slightly power-pop sound. Lyrics go kind of like this:

"I've got news for you baby

I'm breaking through" (or something like that - maybe I'm coming through or I'm coming out)

... "It's time I made my own rules"

or maybe "this time I make my own rules".

"Aye yi yi yi yi yi yo-oh-wo-oh"

Male vocalist, kind of a Joe King Carrasco party band mood. I think there are some keyboards in there, but no new wavy synths.

Thanks, andy, but I figured this one out years ago, but forgot to come back here. The song is "Make My Own Rules" by The Ascenders.
