The song which I am curious to know the title has quite an energenic beat. I don't know the name of the group but it sounds a bit like Simple Minds. If it helps, the first lines go like this:
Reach up, up to the sky. My open arms, and your troubled days.
Sorry I can't clearly remember more without missing up the words.
Please let me know if you can help.

I'm 97.35% sure you're talking about "APRIL FOOL" by CHALK CIRCLE. The first line you reference is from the opening line of the 2nd verse and the 2nd line is the from the 1st verse. check it out here: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006L5OK/qid=1116344987/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_16_2/702-3513759-6982464
The extended version is available on CLASSIC ALTERNATIVES VOL4 (3CD set priced dirt cheap and full of some of the best extended mixes of the time). check here: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000507CM/qid=1116345269/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1_1/702-3513759-6982464
You should be able to find a used copy of their CD "THE GREAT LAKE" in used record store if you live in CANADA. Other great singles by CHALK CIRCLE are : THIS MOURNING", "ME, MYSELF, & I", and their cover of the T-REX classic "20TH CENTURY BOY". Singer Chris Tate (or TAIT?) still plays occasionally it the Toronto Area. Hope this was the one! Christian Toronto, On
