(pt 1)
I just spent 5 hours searching the list before posting (and am happy that many someones were able to identify the Toast song).

1) This melody type reminds me of the band ABC, but doesn't seem to be by them. The only lyrics that I can remember are:

We are warriors
Warriors of love
Some can make it good
And some can make it bad

Of course, these may not be the lyrics. It's just how I remember them. I can hear the song in my head, but no longer have it anywhere to transfer it to upload.

2) Combo of girls and boys singing . . . searches only seem to bring up Supremes (or some such 60s band of girls), but it it most definitely NOT the Supremes or Diana Ross alone. Perhaps, it's a cover? If so . . . who?

Give me this night
To prove I'm right
I'll make you so proud of me

In places, the girls echo "of me, of me". The only other thing that I can add is that, unfortunately, it sounds just like a lot of 80s stuff did. There is prominant percussion (sort of l

(sort of like Catwalker from the Diodes), but the song has far more melody content.

3) One line . . . might be the name of the song . . . dunno:

Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollar bills, hundred dollar bills

Not exactly a song: spoken word to music.

4) A two liner:

Hey, there, hey, there, looky, looky
Don't you eat ma Oreo cookie

Not a typo for "my": I was trying to indicate pronunciation. Not sung: spoken word to music.

5)
. . . lonely night
She'll light the little candle that she hides

Reminds me of the haunting stuff that was put out by Bauhaus, but it is not Bauhaus. Searching puts me onto various webpages that talk about Neon Judgement, but since there are no lyrics available on any of these sites I have never been able to positively identify the band.

6) Dunno if it was ever released as anything other than a demo, but here's my shot at it (no pun intended):

Band: ? (all girls)
Song: Seven Shots

Lyrics remembered (partially)

"One:" ---because something something
"Two:" ---because something something
"___" because you don't feel ready
"___" because you let it go
"___" because you've got no money
"___" because he didn't show
"Seven" because you never () never () never know?
Se-e-e-even shots
Oh, se-e-e-even sho-o-o-ots

"()" indicates slap on the edge of a drum with drumsticks (I'm sure somebody's seen that done).

4)Is Cookie Man by Look People, released on their 4 track EP "Stop Making Cheese" - I saw these guys perform here in London back in the mid-80's.... a great live show.

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/6/2005 7:52:57 PM:

Whoa! Thank you audiofool. I was going to say, "You wouldn't believe how many people I've asked about that song,"---but, I guess you would.

From swerve, 9/7/2005 9:25:53 AM:

2) "Promise" by Secession

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/7/2005 12:05:49 PM:

Really? No info available about them that I can find except discs for sale around the world. I'll pick one of them up. I hope that you're right . . . then again, I guess that I could just resell it.

From swerve, 9/7/2005 8:45:28 PM:

1000% sure

From Mister Cool, 9/8/2005 5:27:08 PM:

Secession is rare. I've been trying to get their stuff for years without spending a fortune. No dice. They were amazing.

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/8/2005 7:03:07 PM:

Well . . . there's some sort of reasonably priced Secession stuff via Netsounds.com (the European version of GEMM).

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/8/2005 7:05:13 PM:

Re: 5) I'd like to add a few more comments of the "sounds like" nature.

I was thinking about it again today, and I think that the vocals sounded like those from Sisters of Mercy . . . but, it's not Sisters of Mercy.

From M Cool, 9/9/2005 3:32:13 PM:

Hmm, maybe Fields of the Nephilim, or The Mission.

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/10/2005 3:39:12 AM:

Not The Mission---got their stuff. But, I will check into Fields of the Nephilim. Thanks for your assistance, M Cool. I will let you know if the ID becomes "solved." Oh, the waiting . . . drives me nuts! (^_^)

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/10/2005 2:53:40 PM:

Not the Fields of the Nephilim.
Checked all the lyrics (for the pertinent years).
Thanks anyway.

From Paul Miceli (Gazebo), 9/14/2005 7:34:28 AM:

(Re:5) This is by The Neon Judgment. The song is
titled "The Sea". It was included on the Horny As Hell cd and was released in 1988.
Cheers...
Paul

From Knobby Wheezer, 9/14/2005 6:47:39 PM:

omg . . . the only disc that I *don't* have by them. That's wild! Thanks, Paul.

Swerve: "Promise" . . . yep, it's Secession. The one that I heard on CFNY and taped was: "dance mix."

Mister Cool: There is a guy in Chicago selling the Promise mixes disc for relatively cheap. He's listed in GEMM as Cold Wave (or ColdWave without the space). The disc is listed as mint minus for the jacket and mint minus for the disc.

My order for "Stop Making Cheese" has arrived from Qubec. Thanks also to you, audiofool, for your ID solution.

I feel sooo good about finally having these songs. I keep looking at them when I'm at home to make sure that they're really here. Silly, I know.

From Nick from CA, 10/4/2005 2:41:27 AM:

Secession!!!!! I've been typing in quotes from that song for years and finally I found this site. I knew it was called promise and i would put in major quotes from the song but nothing until now. I actually have it on tape but a little shaky in spots. thanks

From Rog, 12/13/2005 6:49:54 PM:

Any luck with the "pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters" track? I've been trying to figure that one out myself for a few years, to no avail...

From Knobby Wheezer, 12/31/2006 4:23:13 AM:

Yes, I just found it today (2006-12-31)
Prince Charles and the City Beat Band
Cash (Cash Money) a-side
Jungle Stomp b-side
Stone Killers - album (released 1982)

If I could just find the "warriors of love" thing-y.
~sigh~
