I thought it might be the original version by Duane Eddy, too, but I admit I only heard that once on TV a loooong time ago. The guitars reminded me of some songs by The Shadows, too, but I didn't find anything with Google suggesting The Shadows covered this song.

I think based on the style that this is probably Hillbilly Soul Surfers from the Secret Agent Sounds compilation. I can't find a sample anywhere and it's out of print, but Amazon still has this title listed:
