Another stumper for me. I heard this in either 1981 or 1982. I have always had a working title of 'crushed by 3 fingers of bone' but of course have no idea of the title or artist. Anyone who can help has my huge thanks in advance.

There was this guy once who was compiling a bunch of CD's to make some sort of box set, and he was also trying to identify this song. Only he heard it as "Touched by 3 Fingers of Bone". I don't know if he ever identified it. This isn't the same person, is it? If not, who was that, I know he's out there.

I don't think it's the Box Bill. Too early for them I suspect. However, the vocal does remind one of Jean Marc in a way.

According to allmusic.com there was a band called TV 21 (with Ian Brodie of Lightning Seeds) that released a new wave type song called "waiting for the drop" in 1981 This lyric is in your song. I would guess this could be your answer

I think you've got it. I went into Allmusic and it makes sense - the year is about right, they list a trumpet player and it's the right musical style.
Now comes the harder part, finding a copy.

Go to Gemm, the album is called A Thin Red Line, it's listed as Thin Red Line at Gemm. 7 different people are currently selling it. I have the album. I have the album for the song "Snakes and Ladders" which I'm sure you'll like as well. It's a little eerie how much it sounds like The Box.

Although GEMM had 7 different copies listed, so far not a single vendor has responded to the enquiries.
A long time ago, I gave up on them because of unsatisfactory service.
I appreciate the tip, but I suspect it will take a while to actually find this.
