the song starts out as a nursery rhyme or is narrated like a children's story with no music playing except a bass line matching the narrator a bit like humpty dumpty da-duh da-duh da da. i'd say six syllables.
then it breaks down by a voice saying ohhhhhh or woahhh, with the voice going from quiet to loud and the octave increasing
then they play the song real fast, singing 3 lines before a quick "duh-duh" from a guitar
then this pattern repeats
i dont know any of the lyrics, but all are male singers
its not too rare, as i do hear it played on 80s days on the radio here and there

Could it be "Nellie The Elephant" by the Toy Dolls?

doesn't the same band do a song about the sun, starts out talking about methane gasses...its very nursery school rhyme-ish, I wish I could remember what it was called...looking on CDNOW its probably called Fiery Jack.

oh damn, there's also one listed called "I've got Sunshine"... that might be it too.

Of course, it's "Nellie the Elephant" by the Toy Dolls!!! ReCon 242 is right. I like the description of your much searched-for song. I recognized it right away!
