This has been driving me nuts for years. I've trying to find a song that cfny used to play regularly (but not often). It was sort of a voice over with the lead sounding a lot like Mark Smith of The Fall. The lyrics were a story about an English soldier in Ireland who throws himself on a bomb. Any ideas?

I found out that this was a cover of a song called "Soldier" originally recorded by Harvey Andrews. I'd still like to know who did the cover that CFNY used to play though.

There was a song called "Young Soldier" by Kiss the Blade, not sure it was ever played on CFNY though.

Thanks for bringing this one up Dean. I had that version you speak of on a tape (which got chewed up). Through some searching on the net, I think that version that played on CFNY was by the Angelic Upstarts.

Yep - that's definitely the version! It's available on their EMI Years release - http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,4025641,00.html
Thanks!

I've been wondering abiut that song too. I heard JR play it on St. Patrick's Day in the 80s. Thanks.
