I have no idea of the band or song title but know it's an 80's song...remember dancing to it, but it wasn't mainstream. The only lyrics I remember, and don't laugh, are what I think are "what" and "hello". The chorus, if that's what you want to call it, had an instrumental of a bit of percussion, bass, and maybe synthesizer and right after the bit of instrumental the male vocalist would sing "What" (or maybe it was "work")...the the same instrumental would start up again, and after, the vocalist would sing "Hello". Then I remember, the vocals just going "what, what, what, what, what, what". As well, there were other lyrics but can't remember a damn thing. I can hum the instrumental and someone would probably know, but this is all I have for now.

Okay...found it...Work for Love - Ministry...not so obscure...just in my own mind in the realm of forgetfullness. "What"=work/"What"=for love.
