This song played on KCGL in Utah in 1985 (the DJ announces this at the end of the audio file). My dad recorded the song onto cassette and has been looking for more information ever since. He only heard this song once and no information was given.

I think the line you listed as "Don't know why, must be TNT/the empty" is actually "Don't know why, must be PMT" (an abbreviation for premenstual tension, another term for PMS).

The song is indeed P.M.T. by The Difference. I produced the music video - it was played on MTV. It was directed by Dan Halperin. We shot it in LA in 1983.
