This song was played back when negro musicians were heard on CFNY (and no Edge 102 program director--Lenny Kravitz doesn't count!).
The song was electo-poppy, and lyrics simple.
"If you want to ride. Ride the white pony..., Don't ride the white horse...,Ride the white pony. If you want to be rich. You've gotta be a bitch."
I'd appreciate not only the ID of the band and song, but what did they mean by "white horse/pony." I've also thought the later might be a reference to heroin and the later to cocaine. "Bitch," would be asexual in the song's context.

This is "White Horse" by the group "Laid back" I think they were from Denmark.
Cheers.

There is also a version by the Gap Band which also came our in the late 80's.

I too am looking for that song. Which gap band cd did it appear on? I have a friend in Japan who would like a copy of this song, but all they could give me were the chorus lyrics. I would like to send him a copy of the album that the song comes with, but I've had a hard time trying to find out specifically which album to request. Please, anyone respond. Sincerely, Kevin Moore Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Sam: I believe that you are mistaken. The Gap Band never recorded 'White Horse'. There have been other groups/artists who've sampled the song - but never a re-release or recording. As Paul Miceli stated (above) the duo that recorded the song was Laid Back. The song was on their 1983 LP 'Keep Smiling'
From mark, 11/22/2003 11:10:07 PM:
It is on NRBQ's new album also.

I have a book that lists chart singles and it says: "Laid Back is a Danish synth-pop duo: Tim Stahl (keyboards) and John Guldbeg (guitar). Highly successful in Europe for three years before their U.S. debut. 'White Horse' charted for 18 weeks, peaking at #26, released 2/2/84"
