I have a feeling I'll be humming this synthpop song from a 1990 radio show for you in another post!
The song sounded A LOT like Erasure, especially the beginning of Mark Saunders' 12" mix of "A Little Respect," but I doubt it was them or Bomb the Bass' "Say a Little Prayer." I'm sorry I can't give you much. The chorus included:
"Take a trip, a ride(?) across the ocean. Make a wish and hope it will come true. I'll put my faith in you." An alternate to the second line above is: "Say a little prayer to make it through."
Other partial lyrics include:
"When . . . lost and found . . ." "You can count on me . . ." "You and me, we had the best(?) of ?, but the dream becomes the ? becomes the ?"

It's a bit of a stretch... but you're not talking about ABBA's "Take a chance on me" are you?
Erasure did a cover of the song, that well, sounds like ... Erasure.
The lyrics don't quite match what you've posted, but they are certainly close.

You're right - it is a stretch, but a logical one. "You can count on me" is part of ABBA's song, and Erasure did cover it. But that's not the song. Thanks for trying, though.
I wish I could find the tape that I recorded from the radio long ago. I must have recorded over it a few years ago in a desperate search for a blank tape. There were other songs on there that I liked, but I have identified most of them now.

Darn, I thought I had it...
No other last minute clues?...

This has been solved -- see Marek's and James' posts of 12/5/2004. The song is "Faith in You" by Kiss Like This. I am thrilled to finally know the identity of this song.
