Doug left this message on the Eskimos & Egpyt thread.
From Doug Boit, 7/17/2004 10:16:01 AM:
Hi guys, I'm not sure if any of you are still around - this is a very old thread - but I just came across your discussion yesterday. I was the guy who set up Village Records in the UK in 1987. We released Eskimos and Egypt - 'The Cold' as a 7" vinyl single in 1988. Excellent detective work by you all!
I'm going to be setting up a bit of a nostalgia site (nothing commercial - mainly for my own interest) with info and MP3 samples of the label's releases. I haven't got time to do all that right now, but I'll post another message in the next few weeks when I've made some progress.
I still have all of the multi-track master tapes and will be transfering these to hard disk for a bit of Cubase fun over the next few months.
Eskimos went on to do some really excellent dance music and they were a jolly nice bunch of chaps too!
Unfortunately I've lost touch with them, but

Sorry, cut the ending.
Unfortunately I've lost touch with them "Eskimos and Egypt", but if anyone knows how I can contact any of them - please let me know with a posting here.
Cheers, Doug

Would be cool if this song was released on a cd.
From David, 7/20/2004 7:21:19 AM:
Hi Paul:
Haven't forgotten about the CD (busy at work and renovating the house), I was wondering if you have a way to contact Doug? If so, could you ask him if he remembers how many copies of "The Cold" were pressed. I'd be interested in the answer.
regards,
david
From Cory, 7/20/2004 3:13:29 PM:
Very cool!!! I didn't realize they went on to make more music. Was it under a different group name?
From Paul Miceli, 7/20/2004 5:54:09 PM:
Hi David and Cory,
David, my brother found a cdr copy of the - Hollow Men and he also found the 12" for Kiss the Blade's "Young Soldier". I will pass the 12" on to Dave Myrvold so he can transfer it. I dont have Doug's e-mail, but he said he will post some info on his new site very soon.
Cory, Eskimos and Egypt put out alot of Dance/Rave singles throughout the 90's under the same name.
A village Records cd comp would be very cool.
Cheers,
Paul
From Cory, 7/21/2004 9:11:51 AM:
Paul, that's awesome! Please let me know when those tracks are available...I'd LOVE to hear the 12" versions.
On a completely different note, there's a few new 80's comps out right now available on www.idealcopy.com (called RetroActive 1 & 2) that feature some of the more obscure/rare 80's tracks (like "Shadowplay" by Vis-A-Vis)...just thought I'd pass that along to the hardcore New Wave fans out there. :)
From Paul Miceli, 7/22/2004 3:32:33 PM:
Hi Cory,
Dave will transfer them and I will pass them on. I have both Retro:Active cds and I just heard that there will be a Retro:Active Vol 3

From Cory, 7/27/2004 9:14:50 AM:
Cool...any idea of track listing?
From Cory, 7/29/2004 12:25:10 PM:
Nevermind...I saw the track listing and I'm disappointed to say it's all techno remixes of rare 80's songs with a 2004 sound to them. I've been burned so many times before with "90's Techo Mixes" of 80's tracks, that I refuse to buy anymore. Most remixes butcher the song so much, it's a waste. They add a bunch of bass and thumping to the song, and distort the music/vocals. Nice.
From John, 7/29/2004 1:50:01 PM:
I have to agree. I'm sick of so-called "remixes" where it's basically a bunch of thumping and bass (like you mention), not even remotely resembling the original track, with the odd sample from the original song thrown in.
From 80'sboy, 7/29/2004 6:41:55 PM:
Wow what a let down.
"I saw the track listing" Where is this listed- is at at the hibias site?
From trax, 7/31/2004 7:02:46 PM:
There will be a RetroActive Volume 3 out in October. Just saw this posted at the New Wave outpost.
Retro:Active 3 is in the works. This was something else we wanted to try - hope you enjoy! If the response is good we will consider doing a follow up.
From trax, 7/31/2004 7:06:13 PM:
This is the new 2004 mixes Retroactive. http://www.hibias.ca/store.php?cPath=22_25&sort=2a&action=product_info&products_id=215
From Frayo, 8/3/2004 7:35:16 PM:
Any news of the wearabouts of The Cold or mp3s put up on this mystery site?
im still hoping to hear more Eskimos and Egypt songs... so far i've only heard 3 great songs (i'd say they're more indie sounding than dance...) more guitar pop!! thanks
I can't seem to find your email address anywhere in my address book...can you drop me a line: [email protected]
Cheers, Cory
