I haven't got an MP3 but it was a song from the 80's the lyrics went something like:
3 6 9 the ??? drank wine, the monkeys chew tobacco?? from the street caroline??? the line broke the monkey got choked and they all went to heaven in a little row boat... Clap Clap
Clap clap...

My mamma told me if I was goody that she would buy me a etc etc....!!!

I hope that this is not too cryptic for everyone
Thanks

Sounds vaguely like Red Red Wine by UB40. But I don't remember the lyrics going exactly like that. Maybe it is an extended version.
Or another group sampling part of Red Red Wine. Not sure.

From Paul Miceli, 11/8/2002 3:28:57 PM:

This could also be by the Belle Stars the song is called "the clapping song"

They were all female band from the 80's.

Cheers,

Paul

Its definately "the clapping song", released in late 82/83 depending on where you live.

From Tom Goode, 11/16/2002 12:41:06 PM:

Sounds like it could be "Clap hands" by Tom Waits

From Paul Roark, 12/4/2002 3:21:07 AM:

Go rent the DVD of the movie "Scratch". When they are talking about Afrika Bambaataa and his selecting of breaks, they use this as an example, give you the name and artist of the song, and a clip. This is a different artist then the Belle Starrs.

From Caroline Osborne, 12/9/2002 8:01:43 AM:

Original 60s version was by Shirley Ellis, The Clapping Song and a Mod favourite.

From kim, 4/5/2005 11:55:51 AM:

bananarama also did a cover of it

From Biscuit, 7/11/2005 12:44:06 PM:

It's Aaron Carter's "Clapping Song"

3,6,9 the goose drank wine
the monkey chew tobacco on the street car line
the line broke
the monkey got choke
and they all went to heaven in a little rowboat ;)

From Guest star, 7/14/2005 7:48:53 PM:

Also check out Kahimi Karie - Good Morning World. Those lyrics are right at the end of the song.

From Dr Doug, 8/13/2005 12:53:56 AM:

The version you're referring to is the intro to Iggy Pop's "Loco Mosquito" .. a very cool song that I had forgotten about till now. I advise everyone to download (or buy)it and give it a listen :)

From Brad Erickson, 11/23/2005 2:40:06 PM:

"369 the goose drank wine..." is a piece of children's folklore and there are a series of claps with a partner that accompany it. A friend of mine learned it in Harlem in the 1960s, and I also know that it was familiar to English schoolchildren. Some form of it is probably very old but the street car reference would suggest the version cited comes is no earlier that the late 1800s or early 1900s. In any case, none of the 80s or even 60s popular musicians refered to invented this rhyme. It is folklore that has been adapted into mass cultural forms.

From Joanne, 12/16/2005 10:22:54 AM:

I woke up this morning with that song in my mind. A friend taught me this song about 1965. I have never heard it anywhere else.

From Danny, 5/9/2006 12:06:04 AM:

My father used to recite this to me before I went to sleep. That was in the early 60's. Later when I was grown I remembered it and ask'ed Dad where he got it from. He told me that little ditty was around when HE was a kid. That would have been in the 1920's.

Pia Zadora recorded a version of it:
THE CLAPPING SONG released 1983
