Home of the Hits RIP

Post by Lee »

I don't know how many people remember this great store on Elmwood Ave in Buffalo. I first visited it in the late '80s. It was Buffalo's equivalent of the Peddler.

We were down in the Queen City yesterday and the store is up for sale and has been emptied. The owner Jennifer, saw us peering in and came out to talk to us (she was renovating inside). It closed in January 2007. She says after 30 years she's not sure what she's going to do. She's selling the building first.

It was a wonderful store and had so many things you couldn't get in Toronto.

A couple of years ago we visited the Continental too. That kinda looked on its last legs too. Shame.

Does one really need to wonder if \"Todays\" music (sort of)would be as Remebered or Cherished.......I'm just glad I was there.& not young in todays music scene......Talk about a motherload of comercial catbox filler..with black eyed peas at the Helm......They've spent their entire musical carears trying to \"Polish a Turd\"I think they even did a soft cell cover...(South Park called that Song Taking)

Wow, The Continental. It was on it's last legs 20 years ago! I remember dancing to Gang Of Four - To Hell With Poverty thinking the floor was going to collapse onto the band playing downstairs. The Goo Goo Dolls if I remember correctly ( weren't they the house band there for most of the 80's?) I can't remember the name of the upstairs bartender but if he liked you, you drank free most of the night ( probably why I can't remember his name). Anything went at the Cont. The record store was great too. But nothing beat a night at the Continental followed by a Mighty Taco at 5 in the morning. Ah, youth.................. I'd hate to think what would happen if I tried that now.
