My problem is that I didn't grow up near Toronto, so apart from the occasional trip to the big city as a teenager I never really got to hear CFNY until long after it Edged out (though I knew it on reputation, at least...)

So this list might not exactly coincide with Spirit playlists, but here's my ten favourite songs from that era anyway. Not ranked in any particular order, mind thee...

R.E.M., \"Welcome to the Occupation\"
The Smiths, \"Bigmouth Strikes Again\"
The Cure, \"Why Can't I Be You?\"
Kate Bush, \"Running Up That Hill\"
Depeche Mode, \"Strangelove\"
The Jam, \"Going Underground\"
Love & Rockets, \"No New Tale to Tell\"
Pixies, \"River Euphrates\"
Camper Van Beethoven, \"Tania\"
XTC, \"Dear God\"

Though I do have to say, from some of the bands I hear people rave about on here all the time (Vital Sines, Scary Thieves, Plasterscene Replicas, Viletones, Jolly Tambourine Man, etc.), I kinda feel like I missed out on some stuff. Damn the universe for my isolated Northern Ontario childhood...!

These lists are fantastic. Takes me right back. I have to give this some serious thought, but one thing that absolutely SHOCKS me is that no one (unless I missed it) has mentioned anything by The Box. I would have bet that someone would have listed at least ONE of these:

Say To Me
My Dreams of You
Carry On
Closer Together
Crying Out For Love
Ordinary People
Must I Always Remember
Walk Away
My Dreams of You

Am I the only fan out here?

Hardest Hits

Post by ralph »

I have Vol's 2-5, and have seen them in the cut-out bins here and there, but I think they are getting harder and harder to find. I also have a CDR of Vol. 1 - that one is impossible to find, or very expensive if you do find it. :-(

Not sure how much 2-5 go for on ebay these days, but you can probably find them there or on GEMM.

Later,
Ralph
