Hardest Hits

Post by DJ Wave »

It is The Puppets - \"The Way of Life\" not Poppets

There are only 5 disks in the Hardest Hits Series not 6, Volume One is hard to get.

Ebay - none have come up in the last 5 months, if you do find one, be prepared to spend $100+.

One on Gemm, if still available - http://www.gemm.com/item/VARIOUS--ARTIS ... 755769297/

Hardest Hits Vol. 1

Post by planetclaire7 »

I managed to find the tracks for Hardest Hits Vol. 1 for those that don't know whats on it so here they are -

Hardest Hits Volume 1
(Limited Edition of 5000, 1991 CA; SPG Music SPG 001)
5:52 The Puppets -- The Way of Life (Dance Mix)
6:15 Scary Thieves -- The Waiting Game (Extended Version)
7:47 Kirsty MacColl -- A New England (Extended Version)
5:44 Jon Saint James -- The Girl Who Seduced the World
6:00 The Mood -- I Don't Need Your Love (Remix)
5:52 The Passion Puppets -- Like Dust (Extended Version)
5:53 Europa Lula -- Our Love Has Just Begun (Extended Remix)
6:32 B-Movie -- Nowhere Girl (Extended Version)
8:54 Thomas Leer -- Heartbeat (Extended Mix)
6:22 The Puppets -- The Way of Life (Edit '91)

And you are right, there is no volume 6 ( but i could have sworn i seen it once in a record store)

Classic Alternatives & Hardest Hits

Post by DJ Wave »

4 Volumes for Classic Alternatives
1-3 are single CD - Volume 4 is a 3 CD set.

100% sure there is no volume 6 of Hardest Hits.
My source is very reliable

When Classic Alternatives first came out I sort of passed them up thinking they were the same old 80s comps...wrong...pick that set up as quick as you can...great extended and rare mixes!! 1-3 are getting harder to get, 4 is pretty easy.

Highly recommend the RetroActive Series...fantastic stuff and following in the footsteps of the HH & CA series. I would get those asap since they are limited.

Check out flashbackalternatives.com for great rare tunes!

flashbackalternatives is GRRReat! Big fan!

Thanks for the info on the Classic Alternatives sets DJ Wave. I picked up all the H.H. and C.A.'s as they were released, except for the 3-cd vol 4 as you mentioned, must seek that out to complete the set.

I recall listening to Don Berns on \"FM-102\" raving about the release of Hardest Hits Vol. 1 and to go out and pick it up as it was to be limited in pressing. Belated thanks for the advise Mr Berns!

Alot of good compilations come and go and can later only be found in the used record/cd stores.

A Canadian Alternative Vol. 1 (1992) features some great Canadian 80's Alternatives incl. Scott Merritt - Transistor (fave of mine), Benjamin Russell - Miracle, Scott Mathews - Role Boys, Chain Of Fun - Paisley Girls, Ohmaha - Where Do You Call Home?

Spirit Of The Edge Vol. 1 (1994) is also a good catch too and shouldn't be hard to find. Lots of essentials, but the 2 real rarities - Viletones - Screaming Fist and End Games - First, Last For Everything.

Have yet to find a for sale vinyl copy of first, last. Know there were 2 ep's released. Which one included a dub version which I haven't heard since circa. 1988. Another Canadian act called Catch 22 put out an e.p. with thier outtakes on the song which I'm sure is even more rare. BTW, Catch 22 also did thier cover of The Puppets - Way Of Life on another ep. Go figure...

.... Another interesting thread.....blah,blah,blah..... :!:

\"Way of Life\" is an amazing song! Why didn't The Puppets record anything else? I, for one, feel cheated!

The Way Of Life was screamer of the week on WLIR in 1983. I have the 12\" record. I knew one of the singers, John Cannon, from when I hung out in a club called, The Left Bank in Mt. Vernon,NY. There was a video filmed in the Left Bank for The Way of life. I was there with my friends. We never got to see the video because we lived in the Bronx and the Bronx did not have MTV at that time. I remember listening to John being interviewed on the air on WLIR. Some time after that the band broke up. John went on to date Sally Randell, the door person at a famous club in Manhattan. (Can't remember which one) He starred in an off Broadway version of Jesus Christ Superstar. (I have the old newspaper clipping somewhere.) That was the last I heard of him. Does anyone out there know John and what became of him?
