Well, I checked out my vinyl and Gina's song is definitely by Vital Sines from their 1986 EP 'Big Dark Dreams'. The lyrics from the lyric sheet are:
A light goes out
Prove it's existence
All that we had
Is now beyond our grasp
Flames ignited
Passion consuming
Extinguish the fire
For fear of the cold
In a moment
Our thoughts will have changed
Time will melt the ice
And open frozen doors again
The light flashes on
And cancels the darkness
We absorb the scenery as time is spilled
We close our eyes
To save us from blindness
We close our eyes
To save us from ourselves
In a moment
Our thoughts will have changed
Time will melt the ice
And open frozen doors again
Extinguish the fire
For fear of the cold
In a moment
Our thoughts will have changed
Time will melt the ice
And open frozen doors again
A light goes out
Prove it's existence
All that we had
Is now beyond our grasp
Flames ignited
Passion consuming
Extinguish the fire
For fear of the cold
In a moment
Our thoughts will have changed
Time will melt the ice
And open frozen doors again
The light flashes on
And cancels the darkness
We absorb the scenery as time is spilled
We close our eyes
To save us from blindness
We close our eyes
To save us from ourselves
In a moment
Our thoughts will have changed
Time will melt the ice
And open frozen doors again
Extinguish the fire
For fear of the cold
In a moment
Our thoughts will have changed
Time will melt the ice
And open frozen doors again

I looking for a song that cfny played maybe 15 or 20 years ago .A guy sang "national international" over and over. I think the song was about drugs but I am not sure. The song went on about how "it" was packaged by the company and sold it to the boys and girls. It was kind of mellow song mixed with electronic elements.

I have taken on the task of going through all my old tapes and here are 2 songs from CFNY that I would like a little help with (dont worry there are many more, but all in due time)
1) Some of the lyrics are as follows (Taped 1988)
Children dont you listen to your father, father look at your children and see
(it also sounds in chorus parts like they are saying)
Heartbreaker and Down around the Nation
(Lead vocals sounds like Annie Lennox, to me anyway)
2) This song the vocalist sounds like Phil Collins but I'm sure its not (taped 1990)
Lola hey-o-hey-ey
You've taken my freedom away
Lola hey-o-hey-ey
You don't understand what you're making me say
Any help is appreciated. I browsed the previous posts and couldn't help with any that weren't already resolved

I am looking for the song "My Old Man's a Joke" by Knobby Klegg and the Civilians. This would have played around 1980 or so. About a guy who's Dad is a coalminer and spends his free time getting drunk, as he slow dies of a coal mining disease.
ends with:
"And I'll go to work and take his place"
Thanks

I’m trying to find a song played on CFNY in the late 80’s. It is so vague at this point, all I remember was the course went something like this “Oh Jane (?) she’s having a baby” If memory serves, there were both a male and female singer.
Any ideas what this song is/who the artist is?
Thanks
Ralf

Synchronicity (not the Police version) hits again.
I am listening to my vinyl-to-MP3 collection and "Essay - Me Dad" by Knobby Cleg is playing and I see Greg S's request. Duff got it dead on. Oh my, now Mike Batt's "Imbecile" is playing (Audiofool's request above). OK, now I'm getting nervous.
My era is from the very first days until about 1988. At that point I moved out of range. I turned many Orangeville (20 min north of Brampton) people onto CFNY. We listened to "Marsden High" in the Pizza Delight on Friday nights, and even though it was more like todays oldy-moldies stations, for the late 1970's it still scared away the straights.
OK, Japan's "Obscure Alternatives" is on. Much calmer now.
See ya. Doctrine.

2 songs I just can't put a title 2 and were played very infrequently. One has a man with a deep voice talking about the current political climate and keeps referring to "...ronald raygun". The other has a sampling of a rather monotone male voice repeating "i want, i want, i want your soul...". Both are more early techo-dance like numbers than a tradition song like structure. I would say the first one would be 80 to 82, the second 82-86? Great site, great forum! Thanks - Phil
