This is always a good topic...for here, what would your top ten have been in the late 80's?
What would your top ten be now?
Pick 10 songs and one album.
looking forward to your replies!

10 CFNY songs I'd like to listen to right now--thinking as I go along-- are: (1)Bow Wow Wow--C30,C40,C60,GO! (2)Fun Boy 3--T'aint What You Do (It's the way that you do it) (3)The "Take my hand, go to potatoland" song (4)Trans-American Express--by a Great Ontario Talent Search contender (5)The song where "ecstasy" figures prominently--around 1983 (6)Vicious Pink--You're my fetish (7)Japan--Suburban Love (8)That Heads in the Sky song, the one that has "These ships, they're huge, immense. I don't know wh..," (9)Big Stick--Crack Attack (10)Butthole Surfers--American Woman (Kravitz did a crappy version of it, but Rock and Roll is Dead more than makes up for it)

What about the Cocteau Twins and Lush. Their sound was awesome but got totally wiped out by the grunge rush of the early 90s. Also killed many fine shoegazer bands. Anything off 'Heaven or Las Vegas' by the Twins or off 'Spooky' by Lush rule my world.

Jason is right about grunge killing off some great music. My take on it is that there was a one-two punch from Manchester and Seattle that killed 80's "alternative", if you want to use the term. As much as I don't mind the Manchester stuff now, at the time it helped record companies figure out how to market better to the "college rock" demographic, as did Nirvana and the boys. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
Lush was a truly amazing band that has never gotten the recognition they deserved. Their live shows were always better than their recorded material, which is saying something.

I just went to the Sam TRM, etc downtown this afternoon. Picked up a new copy of Pukka Orchestra's debut album ($9.99 new). I looked but couldn't find recent (overly? remastered - too bad) bestofs from Images In Vogue & Idol Eyes. I miss Tower Records b-t-w.

Add to missing / OOP *** full album /w bonus tracks and lyrics*** CDN titles from Spoons, Rational Youth, Neo a4, Payola$, Blue Peter, Men Without Hats (don't laugh), Platinum Blonde, Gowan (his debut), Boys Brigade, Darkroom, Indie-Ontario '80s comp's(?). Wait - sorry, that's muchmore than 10!

I don't need a desert island. I already live in Toronto, USA!

- p.s. at least I can find (some) UK stuff online nowadays.
