Marsden Christmas Eve Show (2010)

Post by willing spirit »

Can anyone here help me identify certain songs from David Marsden's last Christmas Eve show?

I got to hear the last three hours, from around 8.55pm on, without the aid of any song list to help me. Here are 11 tracks I'd like to know the song or artist (mostly both), with the approx time they were played....

9:00 PM: The tune of "God Rest Ye Little Gentleman", with lyrics about the restroom. Kinda funny. Previous to this song, there was a track that made a reference to Alan Parsons and dreaming by the fire, possibly to the tune of "Chestnut's Roasting By An Open Fire" (my memory is really bad on this one).

10:10 PM: Someone singing Silent Night, interspersed with talking. I think this might have been Sinead O'Conner, but not 100 % sure. Great voice! It seems that David was mixing some different recordings together, kind of a Christmas collage. There was a whole section that kind of sounded like that.

10:15 PM: A song that had some of that polka and march flavor to it, but with some synthesizer used. Fun song.

10:35 PM: Another song using some march rhythms, with an old fashioned rock feel and an organ used (judging by my ears).

10:45 PM: A version of Little Drummer Boy (not the one by Alex Lifeson). I think it had a female singer.

10:50 PM: A nice piano instrumental.

11:15 PM: The tune itself was very recognizable as a Nightwish song, "Walking In The Air" if I'm not mistaken. But it's not the same vocalist or rendition as the one on the Nightwish Cd I have at home (which has the original vocalist Tarja Turunen). I'm assuming this isn't Nightwish, but a cover song from another artist (though it was fairly close to the original). Not exactly Christmas music, but it sounded great! After this track, there was a song with flute. I'm guessing that was Jethro Tull.

After 11:15 PM: I didn't write down the time for this track, but it was maybe 3 or 4 songs after the 11:15 track I just mentioned. It was more traditional sounding Christmas music with accordian and operatic vocals, ending with some rousing orchestrated singing (This might actually be two different songs, the first song blending into the next one). It was followed by what might be classified as a new wave tinged pop song, similar to David Bowie. Very different in style from the song before it, yet it seemed to flow together anyway.

Hi,

There's a partial list (highlights) at his fan blog:
http://www.marsbartheatre.blogspot.com/

Maybe Miss Parker can supply you with the complete list.

If you were quick enough last week, you could have downloaded the podcast at www.marsdenglobal.com.

Sorry, best I can offer...

Thanks Imriej,

I'll check out the less familiar tunes in the list and see what I find.
