Hello to all,
Dilema. I ve been trying to get my hands on a good compilation of 80s music of alternative/new wave bands to play at my wedding this summer.
Perusing the 80s compilation bins out in the record stores is depressing. When I check out these so-called 80s compilations and find that the predominant acts being in the realm of Mister, Mister and the odd token "edgy" act being the likes of Katrina and The Waves ("Walking on Sunshine"), the chorus to The Smiths "Panic" resonates in my mind.
What I was looking at was music (12" versions) from bands like Shriekback, Cabaret Voltaire, Killing Joke, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Depeche Mode, New Order, Jesus and Mary Chain etc.
Anyone able to offer any suggestions or hook me up with anyone that has or makes these types of compilations, I woulld greatly appreciate in hearing from you.
Take care.

There's a series called "Classic Alternatives" by SPG
Vol 4 has a lot of the songs you're looking for

The Classic Alternatives is good. Buy the whole series. There is also the Hardest Hits series, that one is even better. You won't hear too much Skinny Puppy or harder Ministry on those but the variety is good.
