Its very possible that she is doing strictly voice work right now. Many times that is what happens, perhaps she wants a break from radio at the moment. I just have a feeling she'll surprise us one day and appear somewhere when we are not expecting it, same kind of story with everything else in life lol :o)A

Wasn't it in 1988 that CFNY joined in that Madonnaquin-mania?
Wasn't CFNY into that trendymania garbage of 1983-4--oh thank goodness there was a Brave New Waves (and I keep thinking that CBC had a show earlier--mayhaps an electronic show).
Wasn't CFNY's morning shows always lame--save perhaps when Steve Anthony was on it?
Why not talk about post-1988 CFNY? I still listen to it--I've yet to afford some expensive walkman gizmo. Perhaps in time, there will be an easier alternative to CFNY, but occasionally, some of us will listen to it, and thus feel free to talk about it.
Mayhaps you can start your own catagory--something like "1988 and before."

Great Satan, I could NOT agree with you more :o) How about programs like the Alternative Bedtime Hour and stuff? That didnt start until 90 I think. That was one of the best programs that cfny had as far as I am concerned and my gosh- it was after 1988. Besides I discovered cfny in 1989 and ever since then, that is all I ever listened to. I dont like the edge today however like you said, hopefully one day another cfny like station is going to appear. Perhaps its not really my place to say anything regarding this topic since I was too young to remember what cfny was like in 1983 or whatever, however again when I discovered it in 1989, I thought it was the only "real" station out there. I am not surprised to hear this about Steve Anthony. I've heard his afternoon show on the mix every now and then and its pretty bad. Brightest Blessings~A

Antarctica, please read the comments before me and you'd realize how unnecessary your defense of show like the ABH was--which I agree was splendid.
Those were the days (very early 90's)Reiner Schwarz (misspelling?) was the program director, and CFNY hadn't sounded better in years or since.
Actually, I enjoyed Steve Anthony--on the morning in CFNY and Q afternoons before that. Before him were Pete and geets and they were lame. After him you have guys like Humble and Fred which were also lame (though quite friendly in person) and now Dean who's lamer still.
For the record, I heard my first 'NY song in either very late 1979 or very early 1980--it was Moody Blues Night's In White Satan. It was beautiful (Though in them days one could also here such on Q and CHUM-though less frequently--in them days CHUM even played Motorhead).
Speak freely on matters before you--it is as much your place as anyone's. If you are truely ignorant, you will be corrected and enlightened. Otherwise, it is you who does the correcting and enlightening; and if one argues on the athority of their age, such should be regarded with deep suspicion--I know I do.

Antarctica, how did I insult you? Such is not the result of my comments and certainly not the intent. Nor do you ramble-you simply failed to read the comments of those I responded to. I pointed this out. Matter corrected. That issue closed.

Keep in mind Anon that almost 2/3rd of the time of CFNY's existence is after 1987. Keep in mind that the CFNY of 1986, 1983, 1981, and perhaps the late 70's were somewhat different entities.
Indeed, I'll ask you this: what is the greater difference, CFNY in 1977 vis a vis 1984, or 1984 vis a vis 2003? The former may be of a greater diffrence.
As Antactica indicated, CFNY in 1989-93ish was a good station. I'll augment Antarctica's arguement that not only was it better than it is now, but it was a far better station than it was 1983-4--unless you enjoyed listening, to the nth times, songs like Don't You Want Me Baby (perhaps the worse song of the 80's--tho the rest of the album was good); the dance remix of Homo Sapian; and How Soon Is Now (which I quickly found terribly boring even then).
Does anybody, save perhaps Antarctica, want this forum to be more than some old folks home of "them were the days"? Some of you sound like uninspired ex-hippies who thot the good old days ended by 1972?

Mayhaps you could, again, start your own catagory and talk about the good old days when you saw the Police at the Horseshoe, or about Costello's marriage to Diana Krall--I presume you are closer to his age than to Antarctica; or maybe Sting. None of them would have much time for CFNY as it exists now and I'm sure they all think today's music is all lame.

You're a clown. A ton of top 40 garbage has continuously been played on CFNY after 1987. Stop wasting our time by discussing CFNY after 1987. Perhaps you can't read the top of your screen. It doesn't say The Edge. It says The Spirit Of Radio. You don't appear to understand what that means. I won't be responding again.

I think Anonymous needs to chill, this is a place for talk and debate, not a place for stifling others' opinions. And the idea of this era good / that era bad is totally relative to the individual. CFNY's heyday was circa 1977 - 92, in my opinion, and any topic around those times is relevant to this site. Stuff after that, I would agree, is better left to another site, but I'm not going to freak out if someone posts about a later DJ or whatever. What about Martin Streek's Sunday Night retro show? Fair game or not?
