Does anyone remember The Silver Crown? I think it was on Richmond. My personal fave. Intimate and great music. I also liked that one of the guys from Breeding Ground was a waiter there (or was it bartender). I loved that band!

Also, someone once took me to a place on the Lakeshore near Brown's Line in Etobicoke. They played CFNY stuff all night and I was in heaven! Anybody remember the name of that place?

The Silver Crown

Post by #77 »

Let's talk about the \"Crown\" - a solid CFNYer's dance/party bar. A lot of goth and free spirit besides being a main hangout of Breeding Ground .
Originally the building was a library in Old York. The two iron lamps on either side of the steps were a standard of libraries in the old days. ( i took both of them before the building was demolished - gave one of them to the quintesential doorman Nick).

The black and white tile pattern on the dance floor was copied from a cross-word puzzel. Tim, who's dad ran the lunch resturant during the day (it was usually closed after 4 PM) started having parties and it grew from there...
When most clubs in Toronto would flip on the bright lites and kill the music at quarter to one AM, (Ontario booze laws) in an effort to kick everone out, the Crown would turn down the tunes and staff would quitely slip around clearing away the bottles and politely request you finish your drink. After 10 minutes of that, the volume would again be cranked up and the party resumed!! The music would not stop till the last people on the floor could dance no more. It was the BEST.
