Live CFNY Recordings

Post by Tub » Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:47 am

Does anyone know where I can locate any live recordings CFNY produced?
I had several that I recorded off the radio, but were taken from my car along with my tape collection some time ago and probably tossed in the gutter.

Had one recording of Simple Minds (not sure of location) the live version of The Americans is stunning.

Thanks for your time.

Yeah, I had a few Tuesday/Thursday night live shows taped to cassette - pretty lousy quality, if my memory serves I have shows by:

The Alarm
Lloyd Cole
Echo & the Bunnymen
The Psychedelic Furs

I have maybe one or two others.

Your used to see some of those recordings showing up as b-sides here and there - I have at least one such cd single - Peter Murphy where the recording was actually credited to CFNY-FM.

I've managed to resurrect a few... Bill Nelson, Magazine, Joan Armatrading, Stranglers to name a few... all seem to be in very good condition on a recent listen.

When ' NY moved from Brampton to Downtown, they transferred a lot of the old live recordings to digital tape. I did, however, send The Nails their original reel to reel tapes of a live show they did at a bar at Queen and Bathurst, which they cleaned up and released on a home made CD. If you google The Nails and find the lead guys' website, he sells them on-line.
