I was wondering if anyone could post the track lists and winners for the early-90s NMS cds...it seems like it would be a good thing to have listed on the site anyway. I've been able to find the 1993 list somewhere on the web and remember bits and pieces like hHead winning in 1993 and Change of Heart in 1994 but then I seem to hit a wall.
Thanks,
TJ

I believe in 1992 The Barenaked Ladies were given the money even though they don't even appear on the cd.
I have scans of the cd insert for 1991 and 1990.
When I get a chance I'll try to post them.
I think Industrial Artz won in 1991 but I can't remember who won in 1990

The 1991 NMS is also an amazing cd. I have 95&96 and will post them when I get some motivation!(although they're not as good)
The 1991-93/parts of 94 were definitely some amazing canadian music producing years and also some great radio, where "you heard it here, first" and "Music Matters" actually meant something

I thought I already posted this but I don't see it so I guessI don't.
I'm 90% sure BNL won in 1991, not 1992. Gordon came out in mid-late 1992 and they used the CFNY money for that, right?
Either way, you're right, those 1991-1994 discs were sure had some great music that still holds up.

What's up, all...
I was the guitarist in Sing Along With Tonto from the 1991 CFNY NMS, we also played in the showcase that year at the Copa. The actual winner of the contest that year was Skaface. To add a little drama to it all, here's a little story: we ended up headlining the showcase (Skaface was on 2nd last; I remember Chris Bottomley playing but I forget who else played), and we were the only act to get an encore - the place was jumping, and we hd a great time. After the show we were all told that the 'judges' would be hashing it out to figure out the winner. I guess we figured since we had the best response from the audience, and the president of CFNY himself came onstage to get us up for an encore, we had a pretty good shot at winning. We found out the next Monday that Skaface had won, and we were a little surprised to say the least. We found out later from one of the DJs (who will remain nameless, heh heh) that Skaface was told they had won even BEFORE the showcase happened, and that they all met to decide what to do. In the end, they stuck with the original plan and went with Skaface, who played at the big show in Barrie. I should have figured it was rigged, since all the finalists knew they were in while CFNY was still soliciting for entries!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitter, just wanted to set the record straight - it was a very 'educational' experience!

Wow, I have a completely different recollection of that evening. I was the guitar player for Skaface and I wrote "Sometimes" (the song on the disc that year). We were not told anything beforehand, and figured we had won it on the merit of our performance that night. We were surprised that SAWT got an encore, because when the crowd called for one after our set we were told that nobody would get an encore that night. To quote the stage manager "we got a f*cking schedule to keep." Anyways, we were pleasantly surprised that we won, got to play the Canada Day show at Molson Park with some great bands (Violent Femmes, Spirit of the West, Teenage Head).
There was no fix for Skaface to win that year.
