Hey.
I grew up in Toronto and have since moved to Dallas, Texas to work, but CFNY of the late 80's and early to mid 90's was instrumental in shaping my musical tastes of today.
Anyway, I'm trying to track down a band that I first heard on CFNY many years ago. If memory serves correct, the band's name was Digit and their New Music Search entry was a song named "Guardian".
I saw them live many years ago while still living in Toronto, and I seem to recall them having another popular song entitled "Angle" (again if memory serves correct, it's been a long time...)
If anyone knows what happened to the band, or has any MP3's of their music, or knows where I can purchase some of their old tunes, I'd greatly appreciate it. Morpheus, Google, etc... have proved fruitless.

I have little to offer, except that I too saw them perform live when they opened for Chris & Cosey. That is where they were selling their 5 song EP cassette called 'Absolute Control'. The tracks are 'Always Do', 'Silence', 'Guardian', 'Spike' (aka 'Spiked Brain'), and 'Gaia' (which is the song I belive you have called 'Angel').
There was supposed to be a CD release, which sadly never materialized to my knowledge. The band members where Chris Newkirk and Bojan Keevil. A Google search may or may not turn up anything.
Hopefully 10 months isn't too long to wait for a response to this question.
If possible, I will try and see if I can get my current analogue recording turned into MP3s. So far my preservation attempts have basically been to make a MiniDisc recording so I don't wear down the tape from repeated playing. Now that we recently bought a NetMD MiniDisc player, I could in theory get those songs into the computer, but Sony uses a different form of song data compression than MP3, so it may not work that way unless I can find a program to convert them.

Actually, I have to correct myself a little. The song 'Silence' is the one most likely you've tagged 'Angel'.

Digit. I knew them when I lived in Kitchener. they put out their tape with a few songs including Guardian. but then like many of the bands in kitcnener, including myself, went on to do other things because around that time the music industry was transforming into the cesspool that it is now.

That's so funny about Kitchener, how true! I was also part of that whole 80s K-W electronic "scene" (not that there was much to speak of, not for lack of trying though). Knew Chris and Bo (Bo used to also cut my hair). Thought the Digit stuff was good too, don't know why they didn't do more. Have no idea where they are now. Anybody? Still love the old Psyche stuff. Yes, we are still plying that OMD sound, but we also feel there is more to the comparison. Our music is still quite relevant.
I think Newkirk worked with everybody in the scene at the time. He had just bought his first few synths when he "joined" us. I was happy to see him gain some success with DIGIT. We bought a synth from him once.
I also worked with/for Psyche for a brief time. Coincidentallly we are on the same disc of a five CD compilation called "The State of Synthpop 2003" form American label A Different Drummer. http://www.adifferentdrum.com/artist.php?n=ADDCD1155
Fuel, the track on the album, is IMHO one of our best tracks ever.

I came by this BBS through the Invisible College discussion board. The comment “still doing the same old OMD sound� is a bit narrow and perhaps misses the point behind their music. Anyone who has spent any time following these guys will find that the OMD influence, although obvious in some of their songs, is not present in all of their offering.
They removed some songs from their site that proves this but even though they may have some OMD remnants they are totally original. Roll on flightline!

WOW! WHat memories. Digit was the band that solidified my love for Industrial and EBM, and still I play the tape Acid Flood(Even though it sounds like crap now)I'm trying to track down another copy and have resorted to emailing Chris for a bit of help.

I just found this thread while performing a Google search using my own name (don't ask)...
I'd love to get my hands on digitized copies of those old tapes too, I have "Absolute Control" in MP3 format an am willing to share it via Yousendit.com (or similar).
Digitizing audio from cassette will be exceedingly simple though a little time consuming (by modern standards). You will need a cassette player of course and an appropriate cable to connect to your computer's sound card input. You will also need a piece of simple audio software (Audacity is freely available for Mac, Win & Lin at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/).
It may take a bit of fiddling to attain a good recording level, but essentially it should be a case of engaging the record process and playing the cassette. Stopping the record process at the end of the song will create a file which you can then save as whatever format. Editing and cleaning-up the recorded material is possible too but requires fiddely, sophisticated and subtle work.
If any one can be bothered to record raw cassette data to uncompressed .wav files and send these to me I'd be happy to do the really tedious work and return clean(er) sounding files.
As I've said, I have Absolute Control for anybody who is interested...
