Hey Alan, what happened in the last 5 years? Everyones quit or has been fired...
It's been downhill ever since Humble and Fred left.
You guys are forcing me to listen to 97.7 or 95.9 in London..
So much for "The cutting edge" or "New Music"
GET RID OF THESE OWNERS!!!

"in the last 5 years?"
"downhill ever since Humble and Fred left."
"so much for the cutting edge or new music"
- Let's see some ID there, kid.

"Everyone's quit or has been fired..."
- At least some things never change ;)

The Edge is terrible, I can't stand the angry music that's all the same and the retarded toilet humour.

The Edge is repetitive, true.
The Edge is filled with retarded toilet humour, also true.

There are still people that listen though. It's a sample-station: you get a sample of some mainstream rock artists' song and then it's up to you to download more off the 'net (or maybe even *gasp* buy their album).
Mind you, it also all depends on what time you listen to it, because there's some decent music on sometimes.

Lastly, tell me of another radio station that would play what everyone in this forum considers to be 'good music' AND 'Stinkin Park' (oh so very creative, Burnout...didn't think people would disagree with you? oh how wrong you are).
Seems to me there's been a horrible degradation of radio altogether, it's not necessarily Allan Cross's fault though, radio just isn't regarded as seriously anymore.

I like Allan, I think that he is the right person for the job, and hopefully he will fire some people, because all anyone cares about is the music. Announcer's these days are a dime a dozen.

It's not really Alan's fault that the vast majority of new music is crap. I mean, I'm sure we'd all love to see a "classic alternative" station that played the Smiths and Nirvana and the like, but it's just not going to happen -- and it's not Alan's fault that junk like Three Days Grace and Sum 41 is what's selling right now.

Alan Cross can't control the music coming down the pipeline -- but the stuff that has been under his control (hiring Bookie to replace Brother Bill, suspending Blundell, etc.), he's done absolutely right.

REMINDER: FROM THE HOME PAGE (in case you can't read)
"This is an independent site for fans of the old CFNY-FM, the Spirit of Radio from the late 70's to the end of the eighties. Click here if you want to go to the official site."
got it?
and...Alan Cross is a poor sap lacky of CLEAR CHANNEL (an American Company). He will do nothing. If he tried he'd be fired.

5 years?!?! More like 10-15 years since they were good. Mind you, that programmer bit is correct. Its the money. Just look at the commercials on old 'ny vs the edge. First- No national spots for the most part. All local. The truth is that although the music they played creates incredable listener loyalty, it's not profitable. If it's not profitable, it's not a good busniess venture is it? That history of new music is FULL of inaccuracies as well. But I won't go there...

Some youth still want the spirit of new music. problem with Edge today is that they play to appeal to a certain audience, achieve certain ratings, it's no longer about the quality of the music. It's not that there arn't any good bands out there now, because there are...but until those bands get a label, you arn't going to hear them on Edge.

Allan, most people are stupid, and don't understand big business, and are stuck in the past because they are getting old, and they want to remain "Forever Young" (Alphaville reference for the oldies). However you already knew this, so enjoy a good chuckle while you reads these stupid posts.

BIG BUSINESS, you said it.

Discover Internet stations that aren't concerned about the bottom line.

Stop wasting your time talking about Alan Cross or CFNY after 1987.

This site is about the past.

The person above must have hit their head and didn't realize what site they were posting at.

To the above person, you can't compare the Edge of today to the Spirit of the past. They are 2 separate things. It's stupid to compare them. The only thing they have in common is the dial position and that Allan has survived this long by being smart. Enjoy the Spirit of the past as all of us do, and realize that you can't bring it back....Ever!!! If it did come back, it would have roughly 20,000 listeners if they were lucky which in Toronto is basically nothing; no advertising revenue becuse older people don't buy as much as young people do that have disposable incomes, and the dj's would all be broke and live in basement apartments with their parents. Gee, wouldn't that be fun!

Hey Angela....that's how CFNY started in the first place. It's really sad how people (like you) have become nothing more than drones. I bet you do exactly what 'they' tell you do.

Let's not encourage free thinking or creativity......let's all become robots to a carefully crafted society.
