Alan Cross doing Classic Rock ????!!!!!

What has this world come to? Alan Cross playing Fleetwood Mac and Heart on the afternoon shift at Y108 Hamilton???!!!

I found him accidentally scanning the stations in my car. When I heard his voice at the end of the dial, I stopped. At first I thought maybe they gave him free reign on a playlist, but that soon became evident that that was not the case. Did he need the money? Is the studio closer to home? I would love to hear his explanation. Alan.....say it ain't so...

This man is a walking encyclopedia of alternative music. He's written books on the subject, for God's sake! Why hasn't the CBC scooped him up, at least?

Why hasn't David Marsden CREATED a special site for him at iceberg.com???? If he can create a webpage with streaming hip-hop, concerts and "2Kool4Radio" music, surely there's room for "The Master".

I couldn't bear to listen.....

Yikes man! He does have control of the playlist. He's the Program Director at Y108. One of his first "appointments" was to assign himself the afternoon drive slot.

Alan's not as big an alternative rock fan as you might think... at least not today's version of "alternative". His interests are more in the roots of alternative music, and the classic alternative acts and groundbreakers... not in Blink 182 or other such current acts that will soon be forgotten. I read several interviews from him... even listening to him for his final year on Edge 102, you can tell he was getting disinterested.

Yes, classic rock is a bit of a stretch for him at Y108... but I don't think it's as much a stretch as spinning current alternative rock.

Yes indeed it is much closer. Alan lives (last time he mentioned) in Waterdown, which is sort of between Burlington and Dundas, just a quick zip down the 403 to the station.

Corus owns Y108 and owns Edge 102, so he technically works for the same company

Radio today is about owning hundreds of stations, not one individual one. You are told what to play, when to play it, and are basically a voice across the airwaves......but just a voice.

Alan probably realizes the 102.1 won't return to what it was, but he does have to continue his career in radio.

Alan has some control of the playlist, but not the format.....so do not expect Y108 the Spirit anytime soon......

Alan still does an great job chroniclalling the 80s, and 90s influential bands and movents of pop music...check him out sunday mornings and evenings on the Edge

Way to go Allan!!!! This is a promotion!!! You can't be 65 years old (not to say Allan is 65) and play eminem. You have to move on and speak to your own demographic, and the edge is clearly an 18-34 year old niche station. Congrads Allan on your new job! You deserve it.

Well, that's just it. As Fred said at the reunion "you gotta do whatcha f****** gotta do". Humble and Fred work for the Mix. Alan works for 108. One thing is for certain; we all need to pay the bills and there is nothing wrong with that, it's not selling out. It's life.
