Greetings. There is a copy on e-bay of Hardest Hits Volume 1 and it is SEALED. It is a little pricy, but well worth the coin in my opinion. I'd buy it , however, I already have one.

Wow I made a return of 566% on my investment! I'm a genius. I better go check my 350 cds, 200 cassettes and 400 lps. I could be a millionaire!
Hmm. The A's. Sells for US$ 21 on the net. Probably paid $5. That's 9% per year over 20 years. Not bad.
ABBA. Oooh not rare, not good.
Bowie. Better check how much I made on my Aladin Sane. 3% per year. Geez. Not really that good.

That's not all. As a bonus I will send you an absolutely pristine copy of Wings - London Town. Played only once. (Why did I buy that? Why? Why? Why?)

Oh I remember buying that. Chess Records 3 cassette restrospective of Muddy Waters' career. What a great package on a completely **** media. Cost a fortune. And the complete recordings of Robert Johnson on cassette. Oh and there's my Strawbs Nomadness. I cried when the cassette deck ate that tape. Tried rewinding the tape back in. Attempted playing the tape by avoiding the spot which was all mashed up, but you know, it was never the same.
Eurogliders on cassette. Someone is selling 2 cds for $4 on eBay. Wonder how much 1 cassette would sell for?
Guess it could have been worse. I could have been around for the 8 track phenomenon.
Sigh. I better stick to the stock market. Wonder how my Nortel stock is doing...

Perry...take it easy Buddy. Not quite sure what you are getting at.
Most of the stuff you mentioned is basically worthless. Hardest Hits that was on E-bay yesterday already sold in less than 24 hrs for $100 US.
The same guy has the Barenaked Ladies cassette up and from past experience he will have no problem getting rid of it at close to $50 US.
If you know what is hot in the used CD and tape market you can make far more than the average person makes in the stock market.
Buy a CD a flea market for $3.00 and sell it for $100 USD. Now that is a rate of return I could enjoy. And remember all profits from ebay are Tax Free!

Here is a simpler version.
I have bought a lot of music over the last 30 years. I have paid a lot for it. And most of it is not rare enough to have appreciated. So if I sold the lot, I would lose money.
I bet my case is very similar to others who buy music because they like it.
It's great that my Hardest Hits collection is worth a lot. But it's irrelevant. I don't want to sell it. Maybe I should put a note in the CD so that when I die my daughter can profit.
I enjoyed the above thread and found it interesting, and was a bit pleased that I had found the cd when it first came out and subsequently bought all the others when they were released. To have my taste "validated" was nice.
But the whole thing reminds me of those people who brag about how well their investment in X did. Pry into their other investments, they'll eventually admit that most of them have gone south.
To support that argument here's my stupid music cd buying story. I saw Hable Con Ella at the filmfest. In the movie Caetano Veloso sings a hauntingly beautiful song. So I pop over to HMV to see if they have it. No, but for $45 I ordered the import. 8 weeks later I find that I bought a cd that has one great song and 19 bad ones. And if I had waited a year I could have paid only $12.
But no regrets. If you love music you take risks, you win some, you lose more, but the wins are worth it, not for the money, but for the music.

By the way, to those who do resell on eBay - way to go! If you can make a living or some extra bucks - go for it.
And if I ever come across HH1 at a garage sale you know I'll be snapping it up! :-)

Platinum Blonde debut, Standing in the Dark: minimum $70 ($100 Cdn) on ebay. Every time.
From 1983, with only a few thousand (=<5000?) made - it might also be the very first ever Cdn Artist Cd !??!!
The CD format was introduced on Oct 1st, 1982 in Japan only. There were exactly 100 titles split amongst multiple genres including approx. 30 classical; 12 more titles were added by year's end. Then the US & world format explosion at the start of 1983. Look for the original frosted smooth, non-ridged side casings originally used.
